FAITH COMMUNITY/RIVERVIEW CHARGE CONFERENCE

SEPTEMBER 14TH 2019

 

BOB GILL, CHAIR OF FAITH COMMUNITY ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL, OPENED THE MEETING WITH A WELCOME AND PRAYER.  FORTY FIVE ATTENDED THE MEETING. 

 

BOB INTRODUCED REVEREND ERIC PARK, BUTLER DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT.

 REVEREND PARK WELCOMED ALL TO THE EVENING MEETING AND SHARED BIBLE SELECTIONS. HE SPOKE ABOUT FEBRUARY’S SPECIAL SESSION OF GENERAL CONFERENCE & DECISIONS THAT WERE MADE & WILL BE ADOPTED IN THE BOOK OF DISCIPLINE EFFECTIVE 2020. HE SHARED SOME OF HIS BACKGROUND, INCLUDING HIS DAD BEING A MINISTER AND ALSO REVEREND PARK’S PERSONAL CALLING TO THE MINISTRY. HE SPOKE OF OUR WORK AT OUR THREE SITES AND OUR FUTURE PLANS.  IN PREVIOUS YEARS, REVEREND PARK SERVED AS A PASTOR AND ALSO HAS BEEN THE WASHINGTON DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT AND NOW THE BUTLER DISTRICT SUPERINDENT.

AFTER A PRAYER, REVEREND PARK BEGAN THE CONFERENCE.

 

“THE ELECTION OF A RECORDING SECRETARY”

PEGGY HUMBERT VOLUNTEERED TO TAKE MINUTES AND BE THE RECORDING SECRETARY FOR THE 2019 CHARGE CONFERENCE FOR FAITH COMMUNITY (SITES JEFFERSON AND 68) AND THE RIVERVIEW UNITED METHODIST CHURCHES. ALL WERE IN FAVOR.

 

“STATE OF THE CHURCH REPORTS FROM EACH OF THE 3 SITES”

 JOLINE MANNION REPORTED FOR THE RIVERVIEW CHURCH; SOME CHALLENGES THERE ARE AN AGING CONGREGATION AND THE AGING BUILDING. ANOTHER CHALLENGE WAS THE TIME OF WORSHIP ON WEDNESDAY SERVICE; IT WAS CHANGED FROM 9:00 TO 11:00 AND NOW 8 - 10 PERSONS ARE ABLE TO ATTEND REGULARLY. RIVERVIEW HAS HAD 2 RECENT BAPTISMS. THE CHURCH BELL TOWER HAS BEEN REPAIRED IN THIS LAST YEAR. RIVERVIEW STARTED A NEW SENIOR WEDNESDAY PROGRAM ONCE A MONTH WITH DIFFERENT TOPICS (SOME PROGRAMS WERE CRAFTING AND A GENEOLOGY PROGRAM.) MEMBERS BEGAN A NEW AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM AT A LOCAL HOUSING DEVELOPMENT AND 4-5 CHILDREN ARE ATTENDING WEEKLY.  JOLENE REPORTED THAT RIVERVIEW CHURCH WILL HAVE A 100TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION ON OCTOBER 6TH AND ALL ARE INVITED TO ATTEND.

 

JODEE KIRCHNER REPORTED FOR FAITH AT JEFFERSON. HIGHLIGHTS WERE: LAUNCHING “TURNING POINT”(A NON-TRADITIONAL SERVICE HELD ON SATURDAY NIGHT), REACTIVATING THE “PRAYER CHAIN”, AND CONTINUING WITH FREE COMMUNITY DINNERS MONTHLY. THE NU 2 U CLOTHING (GIVE AWAY) MINISTRY IS ONCE A MONTH AND BUILDING MAINTANCE PROJECTS HAVE TAKEN PLACE THIS LAST YEAR. SOME CHALLENGES ARE AGING MEMBERS, THE NEED TO GROW LEADERSHIP ROLES, AND COMMUNICATION (INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL.) SHE REPORTED THAT A “REVISIT” TO THE 5 PRACTICES IS BEING CONSIDERED AND THIS WOULD BE HELPFUL IN PLANNING.

 

NANCY HOMAN REPORTED FOR FAITH AT 68.  SHE SAID THAT 50 TO 55 PEOPLE ATTEND WEEKLY AND THAT THERE IS A BAPTISM PLANNED THIS SUNDAY.  A NEW GIRL SCOUT TROUP IS NOW BEING HELD AT 68 AND THE GIRLS PLANTED FLOWERS ON THE PROPERTY THERE.  READING TO THE ROCHESTER KINDERGARTEN KIDS (BY CHURCH MEMBERS) IS CONTINUING THIS YEAR AND IS VERY NEEDED FOR THE ROCHESTER CHILDREN. A SWAP SHOP EVENT WAS HELD LAST YEAR AND ANOTHER ONE IS PLANNED THIS FALL.  VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL WAS A SUCCESS THIS SUMMER; MORE THAN 40 KIDS ATTENDED.

 

“CARING FOR THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE CHURCH: REPORTS OF COMMITTEES ON NOMINATIONS AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT”

WRITTEN REPORTS WERE DISCUSSED AND REVIEWED WITH THE NAMES FOR 2020 OFFICERS AND COMMITTEES FOR FAITH COMMUNITY AND RIVERVIEW.  WITH ADDITIONS AND CORRECTIONS, ALL WERE UNANIMOUSLY AFFIRMED AND ELECTED.

 

“SETTING OF PASTORAL COMPENSATION” - COMPENSATIONS FOR 2020 WERE REVIEWED AND DISCUSSED FOR BOTH PASTORS.

PASTOR BAY ALLEN; SALARY OF $40,398 (WITH NO INCREASE FOR 2020), REIMBURSEMENT OF $5,000, HOUSING EXCLUSION OF $10,000.

PASTOR DONNA DOUTT: SALARY OF $34,600 (WITH NO INCREASE FOR 2020), REIMBURSEMENT OF $5,000, HOUSING EXCLUSION OF $10,000.VPAM GILL, CHAIR OF STAFF/PARISH RELATIONS MOTIONED THAT THE SALARIES AND COMPENSATIONS BE APPROVED; ALL WERE IN FAVOR, WITH 2 ABSTENSIONS. MOTION APPROVED.

 

“REPORT OF THE MEMBERSHIP RECORDS” - 

MEMBERSHIP RECORDS REPORT PRESENTED, EXPLAINED AND REVIEWED BY PASTOR DONNA; 2ND YEAR READING DISCUSSED AND VOTE WAS UNANAMOUS TO REMOVE NAMES.  NAMES WERE LISTED TWICE IN WEEKLY BULLETINS AND ONCE IN NEWSLETTER.

 

“REPORTS OF THE PASTORS” - 

ANNUAL REPORTS FROM BOTH PASTORS, PASTOR BAY ALLEN AND PASTOR DONNA DOUTT WERE REVIEWED. HIGHLIGHTED WERE: 11  BAPTISMS AT JEFFERSON & 68 AND 5 BAPTISMS AT RIVERVIEW. RECEIVED IN MEMBERSHIP - 12 PERSONS AT FAITH COMMUNITY AND 2 AT RIVERVIEW IN THE LAST YEAR. BOTH PASTOR BAY AND PASTOR ARE CONTINUING WITH THEIR COURSE OF STUDIES.

 

“APPROVAL OF CERTIFIED LAY SERVANTS” - SUSAN SHANE, TRACY WILSON, KAREN MILLER, AND JODEE KIRCHNER’S REPORTS WERE REVIEWED. ALL WERE UNANOMOUSLY AFFIRMED.

 

“APPROVAL OF CERTIFIED LAY MINISTERS” - TWO PASTORS, PASTOR DAN MILLER AND PASTOR JAN DAVIS WERE APPROVED BY ALL FOR OUR SUPPORT OF CONTINUED CANDIDACY. REVEREND ERIC PARK EXPLAINED AND ANSWERED QUESTIONS ABOUT THEIR MINISTRIES.

 

“FINANCE AND TRUSTEE REPORTS” - BOTH FAITH COMMUNITY AND RIVERVIEW SUBMITTED BOTH FINANCE COMMITTEE REPRTS AND REPORT FROM THE TRUSTEES.

 

“OTHER  ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS” THE SALE OF THE PARSONAGE - BOB GILL, CHAIR OF COUNCIL REPORTED THAT THE ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL VOTED THIS EVENING TO SELL THE PARSONAGE AT 347 JEFFERSON STREET, ROCHESTER, PA. A PASTOR IS NOT CURRENTLY LIVING THERE. A DISCUSSION AND QUESTIONS/ANSWERS FOLLOWED.

 

  1. SKIP HOMAN MOTIONED TO SELL THE PARSONAGE, WITH THIS SUBJCET TO BE DETERMINED BY THE CABINET, AND ALSO PENDING THAT THE PROCEEDS OF THE SALE WILL BE TO PAY OFF THE LOAN ($103,000) ON SAID PROPERTY.  2ND FROM JEFF GRAY. THERE WERE 21 YES VOTES AND 11 NO VOTES; THE YES VOTES (65% OF TOTAL) PASS THE MOTION.

  1. DEB MERGES MOTIONED TO ALLOW THE TRUSTEES TO OVERSEE AND OTHER LEADERS TO BE CONSULTED AS NECESSARY FOR THE SALE OF THE PARSONAGE; 2ND FROM BUCKY SCHMIDLEY. ALL WERE IN FAVOR.

 

REVEREND ERIC PARK NOTED THAT HE (AS THE BUTLER SUPERINTENDENT) WOULD THEN NEED TO GRANT PERMISSION OF THE SALE (IN WRITING.)

WITH NO OTHER BUSINESS, THE MEETING WAS CONCLUDED WITH A PRAYER FROM REVEREND PARK.
